This article discusses the current migration policies in the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean countries. It describes how the 2013 migration crisis and the following Constitutional Court ruling set new requirements for acquiring Dominican citizenship. This caused an international outcry because the verdict retroactively denied Dominican nationality to anyone born after 1929 who did not have at least one parent of Dominican blood, even if their births were recorded in the civil ministry.
