Feminist scholarship has analyzed the gendered dynamics of national- and international-level risk factors for peacekeeper-perpetrated sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA); however, the gendered dynamics within the host country have not been adequately considered. Using the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) as a case study, this research analyzes gender differences within community-level perceptions of SEA.

This study aimed to increase understanding of barriers to cervical cancer prevention and control in Haitian women using photovoice methodology. Consented participants were (1) trained to use a digital camera and encouraged to capture their screening barriers, (2) interviewed to unpack and analyze their images, and (3) invited to participate in follow-up focus groups for refined discussion and data triangulation for content analysis using NVivo software. The sample included women (n = 25) who were on average 42 years (SD = 9.8, range: 26–57) and born and raised in Haiti.

L’écrit présente les particularités propres à la poésie haïtienne à travers le temps. L’État insulaire se catégorise par un passé d’oppression coloniale, de catastrophe naturelle et de crises sociopolitiques. La poésie devient ainsi une façon d’échapper à la réalité par l’imaginaire. Différentes influences vont s’y entrecroiser clivage culturel, racisme et sexisme ainsi qu’une influence créole, rendant la poésie haïtienne un domaine marquant dans la littérature de la francophonie. Un sit-in silencieux a eu lieu à Port-au-Prince, le 29 octobre 2003, à la suite des funérailles de Danielle Lustin. Environ 150 personnes, notamment des femmes, se sont réunies pour protester contre les morts « injustes et gratuites » qui ont eu lieu en Haïti. Ce texte pointe du doigt l’absence d’intervention policière face aux agressions, d’abord verbales puis physiques, que les manifestantes ont subies.

This report describes findings from a national survey of pregnant women in Haiti regarding the social epidemiology of pedisyon (perdition), or “arrested pregnancy syndrome,” a condition believed to be associated with infertility. Data collected on mortality of respondents' sisters were used to indirectly measure the prevalence of this culture-bound syndrome in the adult female population and to compare its distribution in urban and rural areas. Perdition appears to be a fairly common event that affects a large proportion of Haitian women.

In 2013 the Limonade Women’s Association for the Development of Agricultural and Craft Production (AFLIDEPA) in Haiti unveiled its transformation center and seed bank. Invoking the Black radical konbit tradition, the organization declared its commitment to food sovereignty and called on its fanm djanm (valiant women) to contribute to the development of their home(land).

This article explores gendered patterns of migration & transnationalism in Haiti. A combination of factors has prompted extensive rural-urban migration & emigration over the last three decades: violence, repression, economic collapse, & the implementation of neoliberal reforms have left many Haitians with few options other than to seek a new life elsewhere. Although many Haitians abroad naturalize & take citizenship in host countries, emigration does not mean that ties to their homeland are severed.

This article studies the role of white, black and mulatto women during the last two years of the Haitian War of Independence, also known as the Haitian Revolution (1802-04). It might be expected that women's contribution was limited in wartime, but this article concludes otherwise. Desirable women were sought as prizes symbolic of a man's status in colonial society, or actively used their appeal to obtain political favours. Women of colour contributed to the rebellion in the fields of logistics, espionage and even combat.
