The report focused on violations of the rights of women and Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and Bisexual (LGBT) individuals suffering violence and discrimination. The information in this report was gathered from personal interviews with Haitian activists and survivors of gender-based violence and discrimination. It is supported by reports by news agencies, governments, local Haitian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international human rights organizations.

Ce texte propose une réflexion sur les luttes pour l’égalité des femmes en Haïti. Pour cela, l’auteur fait appel à certaines définitions connues de mouvements féministes, aux mouvements existants, ainsi qu’aux actions menées depuis 1804. La participation féminine aux luttes a permis de réaliser plusieurs gains et de placer la condition féminine dans les priorités du pays.

Cette cinquième Enquête Mortalité, Morbidité et Utilisation des Services (EMMUS-V) a été commanditée par le Ministère de la Santé Publique et de la Population (MSPP). Elle a été mise en œuvre par l’Institut Haïtien de l’Enfance (IHE) avec l’assistance technique d’ICF International, organisme chargé du programme international des Enquêtes Démographiques et de Santé (DHS) pour le compte de l’USAID.

Ce rapport présente les résultats de l’Enquête Mortalité, Morbidité et Utilisation des Services (EMMUS-II), menée en Haiti en 1994-1995.

This study explores relationship dynamics between men and women in low-income districts of Port-au-Prince. It describes how the vast majority of residents of Port-au-Prince’s low-income districts are migrants or children of migrants from the country’s interior. Men and women maintain ties with their families’ place of origin, coming and going regularly as part of trade circuits or simply visiting, sharing important moments of family life.

This document describes a set of recommendations directed at the Coordinators of the Cluster System in Haiti. The group is comprised of staff from MINUSTAH-Human Rights, MINUSTAH-Gender Unit, UNIFEM, UNFPA, WFP, IOM, UNICEF and several other NGO’s. Recommendations include the integration of a gender analysis in the post disaster needs assessment; developing gender focal points in local offices and around Haiti to ensure that gender is improving the access and safety of women concerning water, sanitation and hygiene, and addressing gender issues regarding shelter and camp management.

1. This report considers and informs on the real situation of women’s rights under the Convention of the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) focusing on particular issues in Haiti. The report addresses the following issues: low representation of women in political life, including the 2015 elections (Article 7); sexual harassment and other derogatory treatment in work (Article 11); the disproportionate impact of cholera on women (Article 12); and problems facing rural women (Article 14).

In a climate of deep insecurity and escalating violence, Haitian women, the backbone of Haitian society and economy, are facing insurmountable challenges. Although Haitian women support the majority of Haiti’s economic activities and hold families together throughout the country, they have historically occupied an inferior social position.
